Thoughts - FIDM days

Hi hi,

Whaaat's up people?
I've been taking a pretty long vacation from posting, guilty pleasure.
To be honest, school happened.
Tons of homework and projects were to be finished in 10 weeks.

I am currently enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in DTLA.
Major in Merchandise Product Development- Technical Design.

FIDM has a lot of industry resources.
Every Vogue that's published.
All sorts of trend books and predictive in textiles, design, interior design, you name it they have it.
I wish I can read through every page of those amazing books.
So inspiring and unbelievable.

They also have career resources, like job fairs, internship interviews and volunteer opportunities.
Speaking if internship....

Say HELLO to the new tech intern at HALSTON <3 p="">

Like them on Facebook because they are great.
https://www.facebook.com/HALSTONHERITAGE?ref=ts&fref=ts

Halston has always sold their merchandise through Nordstrom, but recently they've been opening up
their individual retail stores across the nation

Check out the nearest location in Beverly Center! :D
I love Halston because their chic minimalism style.

Let me explain to you about "tech intern", as you may be wondering what we do......

Technical designers are the ones between the fashion designer and the manufactures to communicate the ideas fashion designers want to achieve.
We'd be the ones who made a fantastical idea into reality.

You can also think of us as "Garment engineers."

So excited to start this journey with them :)

Back to FIDM resources, they also have a lot of scholarship competitions.
Cotton Incorporated is one of the big sponsors for their scholarship program.

They also offer free lessons on cotton-related lessons at www.cottonuniversity.org
Sign up for free now to learn about the benefits of cotton!

Cotton competition: 9 to 5 career wear

We were to design and make an outfit for a chosen market and present it to the judges for scholarship money >_^

I am lucky enough to be chosen to be the top finalists to compete in round 2 because the people who entered have more experiences than me.
YAY
-----> this explained the even crazier workload at FIDM. (you asked for it... O_O)

Anyway, I just finished my 3rd quarter at FIDM and I learned a lot about the industry.

There are so many things to share, I don't know where to start.....

Let me just list them for you:

Draw flats with Adobe Illustrator
Identify fabrics and some fibers
Predict trends when looking into the macro trends
Some patternmaking excitement

And most importantly, some AMAZING people :")
